Role Overview

The Workshop Machining Supervisor is responsible for managing machining operations within the offshore workshop, ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality repair and fabrication of critical components for oil, gas, and LNG production facilities. This role provides technical supervision, resource management, and leadership to machining teams, supporting plant reliability and operational continuity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Machining Operations: Supervise precision machining, turning, milling, and grinding of components for offshore production equipment.
  • Team Leadership: Lead machinists and technicians, providing guidance, training, and performance management.
  • Maintenance Support: Coordinate machining activities to support maintenance, shutdowns, and turnaround operations.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all machining work meets technical specifications, tolerances, and industry standards.
  • Safety Compliance: Enforce HSE policies, conduct risk assessments, and ensure safe working practices in machining operations.
  • Resource Management: Manage workshop tools, machines, consumables, and spare parts inventory.
  • Coordination: Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and operations teams to align machining work with production needs.
  • Documentation: Maintain machining records, job cards, and performance reports.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve machining processes, reduce downtime, and enhance reliability.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 7–10 years of experience in machining operations, with at least 3–5 years in a supervisory role within oil, gas, or LNG production.
  • Strong knowledge of machining techniques, CNC/manual machines, and offshore equipment components.
  • Familiarity with international safety and quality standards (ISO, API, ASME).
  • Experience in supporting shutdowns and turnarounds is highly desirable.
  • Certifications in machining, welding, or maintenance management are advantageous.

  • High school diploma for non-senior roles
  • Job-specific vocational training for non-senior positions
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering for senior and leadership roles

  • OGUK/OEUK Medical Certificate
    • Confirms you are medically fit to work offshore.
    • Issued by OEUK-approved doctors.

  • BOSIET (Basic Offshore Safety Induction & Emergency Training)
    • Essential safety training for all offshore personnel.
    • Covers firefighting, sea survival, first aid, and emergency response.
    • Must include CA-EBS (Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System).
    • Valid for 4 years.
  • FOET (Further Offshore Emergency Training)
    • Refresher course for those whose BOSIET is expiring.
    • Valid for 4 years.
  • HUET (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training)
    • Mandatory if traveling offshore by helicopter.
    • Teaches escape techniques in case of ditching/crash landing.
    • Often bundled with BOSIET.
