Role Overview

The Workshop Fabrication Supervisor is responsible for managing fabrication activities within offshore oil, gas, and LNG production facilities. This role ensures the safe, efficient, and high-quality fabrication, welding, and assembly of components required for production and maintenance operations. The Supervisor provides technical guidance, oversees workshop teams, and ensures compliance with safety and quality standards to support plant reliability and operational continuity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fabrication Oversight: Supervise fabrication, welding, cutting, and assembly of structural and mechanical components.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor welders, fitters, and fabrication technicians, ensuring high performance and skill development.
  • Maintenance Support: Coordinate fabrication activities to support maintenance, shutdowns, and turnaround operations.
  • Quality Control: Ensure all fabrication work meets technical specifications, codes, and industry standards (ASME, API, ISO).
  • Safety Compliance: Enforce HSE policies, conduct risk assessments, and ensure safe working practices in fabrication operations.
  • Resource Management: Manage workshop tools, welding machines, consumables, and materials inventory.
  • Coordination: Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to align fabrication work with production requirements.
  • Documentation: Maintain fabrication records, job cards, and performance reports.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve fabrication processes, reduce downtime, and enhance reliability.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Technology, or related discipline.
  • 7–10 years of experience in fabrication and welding operations, with at least 3–5 years in a supervisory role within oil, gas, or LNG production.
  • Strong knowledge of fabrication techniques, welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW), and offshore equipment structures.
  • Familiarity with international safety and quality standards (ISO, API, ASME, AWS).
  • Experience in supporting shutdowns and turnarounds is highly desirable.
  • Certifications in welding inspection (CSWIP, AWS CWI) or fabrication management are advantageous.

  • OGUK/OEUK Medical Certificate
    • Confirms you are medically fit to work offshore.
    • Issued by OEUK-approved doctors.

  • BOSIET (Basic Offshore Safety Induction & Emergency Training)
    • Essential safety training for all offshore personnel.
    • Covers firefighting, sea survival, first aid, and emergency response.
    • Must include CA-EBS (Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System).
    • Valid for 4 years.
  • FOET (Further Offshore Emergency Training)
    • Refresher course for those whose BOSIET is expiring.
    • Valid for 4 years.
  • HUET (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training)
    • Mandatory if traveling offshore by helicopter.
    • Teaches escape techniques in case of ditching/crash landing.
    • Often bundled with BOSIET.
