Job Description
Position: Senior Instrument & Control Engineer
Industry: Offshore Oil & Gas / LNG Production
Location: Offshore Facilities / Engineering Support Base
Reports To: Engineering Manager / Asset Integrity Lead
Role Summary
The Senior Instrument & Control Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of instrumentation and control systems across offshore oil & gas and LNG production assets. This role ensures safe, reliable, and efficient operation of process control systems, while maintaining compliance with international standards and operational excellence frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
- Engineering & Design
- Lead the development and review of instrumentation and control system designs for offshore platforms and LNG facilities.
- Specify and select field instruments, control valves, analyzers, and automation systems.
- Prepare and validate engineering deliverables including datasheets, loop diagrams, cause & effect charts, and control narratives.
- Project Execution
- Support FEED, detailed design, and commissioning phases of offshore and LNG projects.
- Interface with EPC contractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure timely delivery of instrumentation packages.
- Conduct FAT, SAT, and site acceptance testing for control systems and instrumentation.
- Operations Support
- Troubleshoot and resolve instrumentation and control issues affecting production, safety, or reliability.
- Optimize control loops, alarm management, and system performance across DCS, PLC, and SCADA platforms.
- Provide technical support for maintenance, calibration, and upgrade activities.
- Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all instrumentation systems comply with IEC, ISA, API, and local regulatory standards.
- Participate in HAZOP, SIL, and risk assessments for new and existing systems.
- Maintain documentation for audits, certifications, and operational integrity.
- Team Leadership & Mentoring
- Guide junior engineers and technicians in instrumentation best practices.
- Lead cross-functional reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, or Control Engineering.
- 10+ years of experience in offshore oil & gas or LNG production environments.
- Strong expertise in DCS, PLC, SCADA, and SIS systems (e.g., Honeywell, Yokogawa, Emerson, Siemens).
- Familiarity with hazardous area classification, loop tuning, and control system integration.
- Experience with international standards (IEC 61511, ISA S88/S95, API RP 500/505).
- Proficient in engineering software (SmartPlant Instrumentation, AutoCAD, etc.).
- Multilingual communication skills (Arabic, Bahasa Indonesia, and English preferred).

- BOSIET (Basic Offshore Safety Induction & Emergency Training)
- Essential safety training for all offshore personnel.
- Covers firefighting, sea survival, first aid, and emergency response.
- Must include CA-EBS (Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System).
- Valid for 4 years.
- FOET (Further Offshore Emergency Training)
- Refresher course for those whose BOSIET is expiring.
- Valid for 4 years.
- HUET (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training)
- Mandatory if traveling offshore by helicopter.
- Teaches escape techniques in case of ditching/crash landing.
- Often bundled with BOSIET.
