Position: Shutdown Lead – Offshore Oil, Gas & LNG Production
Location: Offshore Facilities Employment Type: Full-time
Role Overview
The Shutdown Lead is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing major shutdowns and turnarounds in offshore oil, gas, and LNG production facilities. This role ensures that shutdown activities are completed safely, efficiently, and within schedule and budget. The Shutdown Lead will oversee multidisciplinary teams, liaise with contractors, and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards during critical maintenance and inspection periods.
Key Responsibilities
- Shutdown Planning: Develop detailed shutdown schedules, work packs, and resource plans in coordination with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams.
- Execution Oversight: Lead and supervise shutdown activities, ensuring safe and efficient execution of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and process work scopes.
- Safety Management: Enforce strict adherence to HSE standards, conduct risk assessments, and oversee permit-to-work systems during shutdown operations.
- Coordination: Manage contractors and vendors, ensuring alignment with project requirements and safety protocols.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure all shutdown work meets technical specifications, quality standards, and regulatory compliance.
- Budget & Timeline Control: Monitor progress against shutdown schedules and budgets, implementing corrective actions when necessary.
- Post-Shutdown Review: Conduct lessons-learned sessions, prepare reports, and recommend improvements for future shutdowns.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to optimize shutdown processes and enhance plant reliability.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering (or equivalent technical discipline).
- 8–10 years of experience in offshore oil, gas, or LNG production, with at least 5 years in shutdown/turnaround leadership roles.
- Strong knowledge of offshore production systems, LNG processes, and heavy equipment maintenance.
- Proven track record in managing large-scale shutdowns and turnarounds.
- Familiarity with international safety standards (OSHA, ISO 45001, API, IMO).
- Certifications such as NEBOSH, OPITO, or equivalent are highly desirable.

- Refresher course for those whose BOSIET is expiring.
- Valid for 4 years.
- HUET (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training)
- Mandatory if traveling offshore by helicopter.
- Teaches escape techniques in case of ditching/crash landing.
- Often bundled with BOSIET.
